Call of duty 4 modern warfare2
It's hard, very hard, for me to write objectively right now, but here is a summary of what we heard on BASH 123. If you missed it...we will have it on demand in a few minutes.
The raw version of BASH 123 can be found here temporarily.
Fourzerotwo was on our BASH webcast this morning and he had a few surprises for the PC community.
Here are the snippets:
* We're doing a lot on the backend to make the game accessible for everyone. * There is no delay for the PC version of MW2 * There's prestige mode * Jason West at the MP event, said that he was dead on, on the matchmaking servers. We've been building a system on the backend called IW.NET. * You are completely reliant on IW.NET. There are no server lists. There are no dedicated servers. * You have private matches where you can customize the game * You cannot put MW2 on a dedicated server. * This is the first time we've ever done something like this and the team has huge plans for what IW.NET develops into. * Customizing your game...you have quite a few options in a private match * You're getting same game (as in Console), plus matchmaking and private match. * Server admin point-of view, NO DEDICATED SERVERS
I've summarized some of my own thoughts from the cast here:
General
* IW partnering through Steam is what you will see in the future. Matchmaking is not through Steam, but IW.NET is run in conjunction with Steam. * GSP's will no longer be renting out servers. * No PunkBuster. VAC will be used as an anti cheat. * Retail distribution: Pre-orders will get a disk. Or you could order from Steam. * DLC may now need to be paid for - not confirmed. * Piracy was only a small reason for going to IW.NET - not the whole reason.
Clans:
* No more clan servers. Private matches, replace clan servers. * Listen servers will connect to each other. * IW.NET/Steam will replace the community server admin
Competitive Gaming
* Competitive gaming has changed forever. * It might be possible in the future for IW engineers to load a "competitive" setting on IW.NET, but it is far from a guarantee. It might also never happen.
Modding
* Modding the game is now very much in question. Fourzerotwo had no info on modding. However, it appears that there will be no mods or maps for MW2. * Modding in SpecOps? Unknown.
Today our game has changed for ever.
I'll leave this post with Josh Peckler's comments from planetmedalofhonor.com:
The server community is what's made us. It's what defined us.
IW.NET is getting the PC community to turn into consoles. You're trying to re-write our history.

'Halo 3: ODST' Enters the Fray Microsoft's Xbox 360 fall action headliner arrives today Posted by MSN Tech and Gadgets on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 6:23 AM The latest installment of the Xbox 360 "Halo" franchise arrives today, and fans worldwide are lining up to get their hands on the wildly popular game, dubbed "Halo 3: ODST."
The abbreviation in the title stands for "Orbital Drop Shock Troopers," a group of fighters well-known to "Halo" fans but only as supporting characters in previous versions of the game. PC World sums it up like this:
The idea for ODST began as an expansion pack for "Halo 3," just a couple hours of first-person run-and-gunnery devoted to the unsung heroes of the series, the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, aka the guys blown to smithereens as you piloted Master Chief around the last three games like a Jedi bulldozer. "Halo 3: ODST" technically counts as "Halo 3-point-five," except that's not exactly right. Its story occurs before the operatic gunplay of "Halo 3" (PCW Score: 85 percent), so it's really more like "Halo 2-and-a-half." In "Halo 2," the alien Covenant attack Earth and you engage the early parts of that game repulsing them. In retreat, one of their faster-than-light jump ships generates a disastrous shock wave above a fictional African city. In "ODST," you play a "rookie" United Nations Space Command soldier trapped in the city after the calamity, scouring the wreckage for your missing squad-mates. Microsoft expects big sales and high demand for the game -- but do gamers agree with the hype? Early reviews are largely positive. Crispy Gamer hailed the game's Firefight feature, but expressed doubt that the latest "Halo" offering has kept pace with similar action-game franchises like "Call of Duty," "Left 4 Dead" and "Gears of War."
For hard-core "Halo" fans, it's been a long time coming. "Halo 3: ODST" is now on sale at most tech retailers, for $59.
Epic on shipping Gears of War 2 in JapanNews by Randolph Ramsay, GameSpot AUSep 28, 2009 3:51 am PT36 commentsStronger violence almost caused Gears of War 2 not to be released in Japan, Epic president says.
Who was there: Mike Capps president of Epic, speaking at a special session at the Tokyo Game Show.
What they talked about: The Gears of War franchise may be one of the biggest on the 360 in the US and other Western markets, but that's certainly not the case in Japan. While both games in the series have been released in the country (and reviewed favourably), Epic president Mike Capps said Gears of Wars 2 was close to not being available, thanks to concerns the developer had about some of the violent content in GOW2 making it past Japanese censors.
Capps said it was "difficult" for Epic to ship the first Gears, and it wasn't because of the language barrier. It was the game's violence which was the biggest hurdle, with Epic having to create a separate version of the game for Japan with objectionable content taken out (such as bloodspray). This meant the developer also had to create two versions of all DLC and updates, which was a heavy workload considering Japan accounted for only 1 percent of global sales for Gears of War.
So when it came to the sequel, Capps said Epic did not even initially plan for a Japanese release due to the game's more violent content, pointing out in particular the boss level which took place inside a giant wormlike creature. "We thought that we could never make a version for Japan that would fit our vision, that we would need too much work, and supporting two games would be too difficult," he said.
But thanks to the persistence of Microsoft in Japan--and calls from Japanese fans of the series--Epic relented and asked the local Microsoft to check out what content needed to be changed for Gears of War 2. As it turns out, recent changes to Japanese classification laws meant very little had to be changed, much to the suprise of Capps.
Quote: "We would have done this 10 months earlier if we knew you could cut up a boss monster's heart from the inside and would have no problem [with censors]."
Takeaway: With the room packed with Japanese journalists wanting to hear from the Epic president, it seems that the Gears of War franchise remains one of the leading Western ones within the nation.
This is from the Nova forums talking about DF:AF. I sure hope that this game will be better than what they put out for DFX2. Hopefully it will not be just another remake of one of thier existing games.
wrote ... This is just a quick update on the status of DFAF since there is currently a lot of speculation in the forums:
DF:AF will not be released until at least Q1 2010. DF:AF uses a new cutting edge engine with some awesome technical feats that I am still not allowed to talk about. We showed some of it privately at GDC behind closed doors but we are still not ready for a public unveiling. System requirements are not fixed yet but likely it will require a minimum of shader model 3 video hardware and a lot of RAM. We do still plan to have a Beta but not until sometime after DFX2 is on the shelves and past its first update. There is currently no Beta at all so ignore the rumors on that.
DFX2 conversely uses an enhanced version of the JO engine and has fairly modest system requirements. Please do not confuse these 2 products as they have almost nothing in common.
July has been very busy for the staff at Novalogic HQ. We have some big announcements for everyone in the near future.
Here is sneak peak at some of them… o DFX2 will be available at GameStop soon o European availability for DFX2 in retail will be arriving shortly o Outfit your entire squad with bundles of Novalogic games and GOLD packs from the NovaWorld store with bulk discounts. o Never-before seen Maps will be available for all DFX2 fans o Cool New Update for DFX2
